David Ison and TheraSound
TheraSound’s Founder and President, David Ison, is internationally recognized as a pioneer in the use of sound, meditation and self-realization to heal chronic pain and serious long-term illness.
David has been a composer, audio designer, sound engineer, meditation teacher, and author for over thirty years. In 1980, he suffered severe spinal injuries in a car accident, and was unable to walk. In terrible pain and faced with the prospect of being permanently crippled, David joined his musical skills with his extensive knowledge of meditation practices to recover full mobility of his legs and torso. Out of this experience, he developed the compositional and psychological techniques that became the backbone of the TheraSound Method.
David has produced dozens of therapeutic compositions and his work is utilized by some of the most prestigious medical institutions around the country and the world including Bethesda Navel Hospital, San Diego Children’s Hospital and The Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine. In 1999 the U.S. National Institutes of Health published a three-year study on TheraSound. This trial clinically validated the music’s capability to elicit the Relaxation Response and further documented its effect of significantly reducing pain, anxiety and depression.
David has an extensive private practice with clients all over the country. At his facility in Baltimore, MD, he teaches meditation and enjoys working with clients on a long-term basis. He regularly lectures and conducts training workshops on the TheraSound Method at conferences and medical centers around the country.
David lives in an 1880s farmhouse on the outskirts of Baltimore with his wife, Ruth, an acupuncturist. An accomplished organic chef, he enjoys making music for the mind and body and food for the soul.
